On the Campaign Trail
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - It's another day in the Sandoval for State Representative Campaign. The sun is low in the western horizon and the temperature has dropped to a comfortable level and clouds are gathering in what may become the next heavy down pour. Yet, the Sandoval Team and family are just gearing up to go door-to-door and provide "New Energy for a Growing Westside". Antonio and his team have committed to go door-to-door in all 16 precincts in District 29 to bring his message to the people. What makes Antonio Sandoval unique and appealing to voters is his approach. He understands that the best way to represent the people is to go to the people. Many supporters have commented on the energy and enthusiasm Antonio brings and understand that he has the heart of a servant and will work for the people.
Antonio believes that when you run for public office you speak to everyone. The problems we face on the Westside affect us all. Westside residents do not want rhetoric; they want plain talk and honesty from their elected officials. Antonio understands that new schools, accessible roads and quality jobs should not be a dream; they should be accessible to all of us.
After many hours of walking the day's planned neighborhoods, the first rain drops of the coming storm being to fall and the Campaign Team celebrates with the customary "Round Table Chat" which gives the Team a chance to share stories of the days walk and relish the thought that on this day a difference was made!
If you would like to join the Sandoval for State Rep Team and provide "New Energy for a Growing Westside" please contact Antonio.
Bubble Gum Brigade
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - Antonio Sandoval, candidate for New Mexico House 29, has volunteered with the Bubble Gum Brigade since last February's General Obligation Bond. Antonio's dedication to schools on the Westside is evident through his commitment to the Bubble Gum Brigade. Antonio participated with the kickoff event at S.R. Marmon Elementary School on the Westside and continues walking door-to-door for this important cause in addition to his canvassing efforts on behalf of his own campaign. He spoke to the LBJ Middle School's Student Council to encourage its members to help with the Bubble Gum Brigade effort, which resulted in approximately 25 students, parents and community members joining the Brigade for the final push. He also served as a site coordinator for LBJ Middle School walk the final weekend before the election on Tuesday, September 19th.
As a result of the Bubble Gum Brigades efforts, the $391 million General Obligation Bond on September 19th was passed, which will help build new schools on the Westside. Ground Breaking for the New Northwest High School
THURSDAY, 14 September 2006
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - During the late morning ceremony at the site of the new Northwest High School, many gathered to witness the ground breaking of the city's first high school in over twenty years. It was a great moment to see action being taking in providing new schools for the growing Westside. Many elected officials and activists were present, including Antonio Sandoval. Antonio was along side many Bubble Gum Brigade activists and volunteers who continue to fight for additional new schools on the Westside and a higher quality of education for our children.
Those in attendance were joyous that action is being taken, but were still aware that much work still needs to be done in regards to our school system. Cheryl Jorgensen, an active parent and member of the Bubble Gum Brigade was shocked to have not seen Antonio's opponent for the State House present at the ceremony. Many folks were disappointed and commented on the lack of responsiveness from their elected official on an issue as important as the construction of new schools.
Despite Antonio's very demanding schedule, he made the effort to participate and be present at something that is so important to his community. In fact, he even took time to give an interview for Univision about his involvement with the Bubble Gum Brigade and how important it is to give back to the community.
Antonio Sandoval featured on 106.3 Talk FM Radio show, Albuquerque
TUESDAY, 22 August 2006, 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - On Tuesday, 22 August 2006, Antonio Sandoval- the youngest candidate running for the position of State Representative in NM -made his radio debut on 106.3 Talk FM Radio. Sandoval was interviewed live on the air by 106.3 Talk FM Radio's Larry Ahrens. Ahrens was impressed with Sandoval's poise and ideals.
Sandoval views his campaign as a great opportunity to restore politics to "the way of the people". He has been knocking on doors in his district since June because he feels it's his duty and responsibility to "listen to their concerns and represent them."
His campaign platform asserts that the same issues that affect the Westside today: schools, roads, and quality of life, were those faced 20 years ago. Sandoval asks "Where's the representation? How come we are still having overcrowded schools on the Westside?"
Ahrens commented on the negative reputation that twenty-somethings get "they don't really care what's going on in the world...they're detaching from everything...that they don't care about the system." Sandoval feels that this is not a valid representation of this generation. He believes that 20-somthings are involved and using the Internet to "absorb information, disperse information, and to organize"
Although Sandoval earned his degree from Colorado College, he returned to NM and "made a cognizant effort to be that change" which he wanted to see. His willingness to "stay here and put myself out on the line to bring that change" speaks to his ideals. He has conviction, "it's about servant leadership, being a public servant not a public politician." He vowed to "keep the heart of the people in mind."
When asked if he'd be an independent thinker at the Round House if elected, Sandoval assured he was "a native New Mexican that is concerned about the needs of all New Mexicans, especially those on the Westside," and that "the goal of public service is to represent the people you serve."
Ahrens found Sandoval refreshing. And when he asked the 24 year old about the cynicism surrounding politics, Sandoval firmly replied "absolute power corrupts absolutely" and that he wants to be held accountable by the voters and constituency. That is why, if elected, he plans to continue knocking on doors and holding constituent meetings to make sure he is representing the voters needs.
"That's what it's about-putting the people first and service, it's not about egos and it's not about personal agendas. It's about moving our community and our culture and our state forward." "Running as a 24 year old requires a lot of sacrifice...but to me its about the people and representing their needs and doing the best I can for them," concluded Sandoval.
Sandoval Brings New Energy to Candidate Meet & Greet
WEDNESDAY, 16 August 2006, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - Albuquerque's Westside residents gathered at the Ladera Golf Course on Wednesday August 16, 2006 to meet and greet most of the Democrats running for office this "06" election year. Westside neighbors listened to Lt. Governor Diane Danish and Patricia Madrid, candidate for US Congress District 1. Among the leaders vying for the top seats were James Lewis, Candidate for State Treasure, Jim Baca, Candidate for the State Land Commissioner, Mary Herrera, Candidate for Secretary of State, and Jeff Armijo, candidate for State Auditor. Gary King, Candidate for Attorney General was represented by his news and media manager, Phil Cisneros. Alan Armijo, Current Bernalillo County Commissioner and Albuquerque City Councilors Michael Cadigan and Ken Sanchez were on hand to introduce the throngs of Democratic candidates for State Representative Districts, the Bernalillo County Assessor's Office as well as the PRC and most of the Judges running on the Democratic ticket.
One of the highlights of the evening came from Antonio Sandoval, Candidate for the State House District 29. Antonio delivered a bi-lingual campaign speech that mesmerized the crowd. Antonio told the crowded audience the community on the Westside is growing and it is important to have a State Representative who has the energy, responsiveness and proactive spirit to address the needs of District 29. Day by day the community is changing; it is becoming more robust, more dynamic, and more diverse. Issues such as schools, roads, and quality of life are at the heart of what is important to Westsiders. As the Westside begins to write the next chapter of its history, we must take the necessary measures to make sure that we are ready for what tomorrow holds. We must take the necessary measures to make sure that we are ready to write this new chapter with a pro-active approach, a vested interest, and the new energy that it will take to address the issues of a growing Westside, both today and tomorrow.
